Lane Bess has more than 25 years of experience and a proven track record in sales, marketing and executive management of rapidly growing, publicly traded and privately held companies serving the enterprise and consumer market. He was formerly the Chief Operating Office of Zscaler, an innovator and leader in cloud-based Internet security services. Before Zscaler, Lane was the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, where he was responsible for late fundraising and grew the company to over $200 million in revenue on the path to its IPO. He additionally served as EVP of Worldwide Sales and general manager for Trend Micro, which exceeded $1 billion in annual revenue. Lane also serves as Advisor at PernixData, Inc. and Nutanix, Inc.
Jay Chapel is the CEO and co-founder of ParkMyCloud. After spending several years in the cloud management space, Jay saw that there was no simple solution to the problem of wasted cloud spend – which led him and co-founder Dale Wickizer to found ParkMyCloud. Before that, he spent 10+ years with Micromuse and IBM Tivoli, a provider of business infrastructure management software. After an acquisition by IBM, he led the successful sales integration and subsequent growth of the IBM Tivoli/Netcool business in Europe. He also held several regional and worldwide sales roles in Switzerland, the UK and the US. Jay earned a BA in Finance and an MBA from West Virginia.
Mr. Chapel is CEO and founder of White Hall Capital, LLC, a Northern Virginia-based private equity investment firm. Most recently Mr. Chapel was the majority owner and COB of SENTECH. Previously, Mr. Chapel was Founder and Owner of AVIEL Systems, Inc., a federal IT and management consulting services provider in areas critical to national security, transportation and defense. Prior to AVIEL Mr. Chapel served as President and CEO of OPTIMUS, as COO of Computer & Hi-Tech Management, and President of ANDRULIS Corporation. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ostrato, National Technologies Associates, and Lexerd Capital. He is a graduate of Drexel University with a BS in BA. At Drexel, he serves on the Drexel Board of Trustees and the Dean’s Advisory Board.
David Gardner is a serial entrepreneur, writer, adviser, and early-stage venture capitalist with nearly thirty years of experience in creating, building and investing in startups. Before founding Cofounders Capital, a $12M early-stage seed fund, he was North Carolina’s most active and involved angel investor. As an adviser, Gardner spends his time working as an unpaid coach and mentor to startup companies and managing his free startup accelerator in Cary, NC. As an entrepreneur, David has been the founder or co-founder of multiple successful companies and has demonstrated a record for consistency across multiple industries and markets with six successful exits in a row.
Thomas McGowan has 35 years of experience in the institutional investment management industry. Mr. McGowan is currently the Founder and Portfolio Manager of ENRGM, LLC, a high net worth investment office. ENRGM, LLC focuses on Early Stage, Seed and Angel financing of venture capital organizations as well as investments in small and medium sized businesses (i.e. buyouts). Prior to founding ENRGM, Mr. McGowan was a Managing Director at a highly specialized, niche oriented private equity firm. Mr. McGowan holds a B.A. in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and is currently on the Board as serving as an Advisor to several venture backed companies.
